This year's Scots Law Fair will take place on Wednesday 23rd September 2009, 1pm - 4pm (last entry 3.30pm) in the Playfair Library, Old College.  The Scots Law Fair brings together the larger Scottish law firms which have upcoming traineeship closing dates, usually for starting two years hence, plus a variety of other organisations who can provide information about working in the Scottish legal profession.

Who should attend?

Final year law students and diploma students interested in applying for commercial-related traineeship or finding out about other areas of the legal profession. Penultimate year law students exploring options for vacation work.

First and Second year law students who want to get a head start.  Getting a feel for work in different areas of the legal profession, and the different law firms, will help you make decisions about areas of work to apply for in the future.

Use the fair to talk directly to law firms and their recent recruits and find out more about their recruitment process, how many trainees they take, what they are particularly looking for in their recruits, the type of legal work they do. This information will enable you to decide which firms you are most interested in applying to, and to target your applications more effectively, whether for traineeships or vacation work next summer.  More information about How to Make the Most of the Scots Law Fair is available here.

These are short sessions (30 mins) of information, tips and hints on how and when other areas of the Scottish legal profession, including public sector, high street, rural practice and criminal law firms, recruit their trainees, how to find relevant vacation work and considering your career options outwith the legal profession.
